Simmons Tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College junior Zachary Simmons was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's tennis, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.
Simmons went 2-0 in both singles and doubles play last week as Mitchell picked up wins over Newbury College and Wheelock College. Both singles wins came at the No. 2 spot in straight sets, and he lost only one game in four combined sets. Simmons also paired with Graham Cavanaugh to post a pair of 8-0 victories at No. 1 doubles.
Simmons has had a huge impact in his first season with the Mariners. He is 6-2 overall (5-1 NECC) in singles action this season, primarily playing at the No. 2 spot. He's also 6-2 overall (5-1 NECC) in doubles play while splitting time at the No. 1 and 2 spots.
Mitchell (4-4 overall, 3-3 NECC) will next host Regis College today at 3 p.m.
