Simmons Repeats at NECC Rookie of the Week
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – For the second week in a row, Mitchell College junior Zachary Simmons was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's tennis, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Simmons went 3-0 in both singles and doubles play last week as the Mariners closed the regular season with three wins and qualified for the NECC Championship. All three of Simmons' singles victories came at the No. 2 spot during which he lost a total of only two games over the three matches. The junior also went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles for the week and handed the Regis squad of Michael Beluch and Jeff Parrish its first loss of the season.
Simmons has recorded an overall record of 9-2 (8-1 NECC) in singles play this season, playing all but one match at the No. 2 position. He has also posted a 9-2 record (8-1 NECC) in doubles play and is undefeated at the No. 1 spot (7-0).
Mitchell (7-5 overall, 6-4 NECC) will next play in the semifinals of the NECC Championship on Wednesday, April 24. The NECC will announce seeding and match sites and times later today.
