ATTLEBORO, Mass. – For the second straight week and third time this season, Mitchell College senior Ashley Murtha was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of women's lacrosse, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Murtha scored 22 goals and recorded 24 draw controls in two games last week, and in the process she set an NCAA single game scoring record. Only one game after tying the NCAA Division III mark for goals in a game, she broke the record with 15 tallies at Bay Path. The 15-goal outburst also tied the Division II record for most goals ever scored in an NCAA contest at any level. Murtha then wrapped up the week with a seven-goal effort in a win at Daniel Webster.
Murtha earns player of the week honors for the fifth time in her career and third time this month (April 3, 17). She currently leads the nation in goals per game (8.22), a category she led as both a freshman in 2014 and a junior in 2016. In nine games this season she has netted 74 goals to go with five assists for 79 points.
Mitchell (3-6 overall, 2-5 NECC) will next play at Southern Vermont College on Thursday, April 27 at 4 p.m.
