Bio


Chelsea Shaughnessy enters her fourth season as head coach of the women's soccer program in 2018-19. 

Shaughnessy made her collegiate head coaching debut with the Mariners in 2015 and led the program to its first New England Collegiate Conference Championship appearance since 2012. In 2016 the Mariners made a return trip to the conference tournament. 

Prior to joining the Mariners, Shaughnessy spent three years as a women’s soccer assistant at Johnson & Wales University. The Wildcats qualified for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship twice during her tenure and advanced to the semifinals in 2014 for the first time in six years. She also served as an assistant on both the women’s lacrosse and basketball teams while at JWU.

On the club level, Shaughnessy is currently coaching the Southeast Soccer Club U11 girls team. She also spent three years with the Tidal Wave Soccer Club in Providence, R.I. and most recently coached the U18 team. In addition she served as an assistant coach with the U17 squad and aided in player development for girls 12 and under.

Shaughnessy was a three-sport athlete (soccer, lacrosse, basketball) at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass. She was a three-time all-conference soccer honoree (2009-11) and played in 72 career games with 26 goals and 15 assists as a midfielder. She led the Bison in scoring as both a freshman and senior and was named a captain in her final season. In three years on the women’s lacrosse team, Shaughnessy played in 38 games and scored 55 goals with nine assists and 108 draw controls. A top defensive threat on the basketball court, she set the school record for single season steals (115) as a senior and ranked fifth in the nation in the category in 2011-12. 

A native of Halifax, Mass., Shaughnessy graduated from Nichols in 2012 with a degree in sport management. She is a member of the National Soccer Coaches of America and is licensed by the U.S. Soccer Federation.

Shaughnessy also serves as an assistant coach for the Mitchell women’s lacrosse program.

 

 

 

Meet The Coach
Fiona Walsh

Fiona Walsh was named the next head coach of the Mitchell College women’s soccer program in December of 2025.

Walsh will make her collegiate head coaching debut with the Mariners in the fall of 2026 and brings a strong combination of collegiate coaching experience and elite playing credentials.

Walsh joins the Mariners after serving as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Trinity College, where she was appointed Acting Interim Head Coach during the spring of 2024. In that role, she led all team operations, including recruiting and player development. Her responsibilities included identifying and recruiting high-achieving student-athletes nationwide, organizing campus visits, preparing scouting reports, assisting with game-day strategy, and overseeing set pieces, strength and conditioning, and supplemental training sessions.

Prior to Trinity, Walsh served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Clark University, where she helped guide the program to its first NEWMAC Championship appearance. She also brings extensive club and semi-professional coaching experience within ECNL, ECNL Regional League, EDP, and UWS environments, along with specialized goalkeeper training experience.

A former standout goalkeeper at Vassar College, Walsh was a two-year team captain and program record-holder who helped lead the Brewers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance. She earned multiple conference and national honors, including NCAA Division III Player of Distinction recognition.

Walsh holds a bachelor’s degree from Vassar College and a master’s degree in teaching from Clark University. She is USSF “C” licensed and holds multiple United Soccer Coaches certifications.
