Devona Tabbed NECC Player of the Week in Men's Tennis
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – For the third straight week, Mitchell
College freshman Rocco Devona earned weekly conference honors
from the New England Collegiate Conference, as announced on Monday
afternoon.
Devona was named NECC Player of the Week for the sport of
men’s tennis. It marked the first time in his young career
that he earned Payer of the Week accolades. The past two weeks,
Devona earned Rookie of the Week status from the conference.
Devona led the Mariners to a 2-0 week with victories over Johnson
& Wales University (7-1) and NECC rival Becker College (8-1).
Devona partnered with both Tyler Engleberg and Kyle Carmona at No.
1 doubles last week, winning 9-7 over Johnson & Wales and 8-2
over Becker. He also shut out the Wildcats’ Gino Richter
(6-0, 6-0) and the Hawks’ Snejezan Telebak (6-1, 3-0,
retired) in singles action.
Devona remains undefeated in singles and doubles play this season.
He has helped the Mariners to a 5-0 overall record and a 3-0 mark
in conference play.
Mitchell will next host Wheelock College on Tuesday, April 13 at
3:30 p.m.
