Men's Tennis Duo Honored by NECC
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Two members of the Mitchell College men's tennis team were honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday morning.
Senior Andrew Small was named NECC Player of the Week while freshman Rajan Bawa was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. Both earned the honors for the first time in their careers after helping the Mariners to a 3-0 record last week in conference play.
Small went undefeated in both singles and doubles last week. He won his matches at No. 3 doubles against both Regis College and Lesley University and moved up to play at No. 1 against Becker College in an 8-3 victory. He also moved up a spot in singles against Becker to win at No. 3 after posting wins over Lesley and Regis at No. 4 singles. Small remains undefeated on the season in both singles and doubles play.
Bawa played in two matches last week and posted a pair of wins at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. He made a massive comeback to defeat Regis rookie Michael Beluch by scores of 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 after trailing 5-1 in the second set of that match. He also defeated Lesley's Nick Mattox in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) without losing a game. Bawa is also undefeated on the season.
Mitchell (4-0 overall, 4-0 NECC) will next play at Newbury College on Tuesday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m.
