McLean Takes Top Spot at Mitchell Invitational III
GROTON, Conn. – Senior Shamus McLean (Groton, Conn.) took the top spot at the Mitchell Invitational III on Wednesday afternoon, carding a four-over-par round of 75, as the Mitchell College men's golf team hosted Albertus Magnus College, Lesley University, and the Wentworth Institute of Technology at Shennecossett Golf Course.
It marked the fourth time in five events this fall in which McLean has claimed medalist honors. Fellow senior Jack Hayes (New Milford, Conn.) finished second overall after firing a five-over-par round of 76, while Garrett Kendall of WIT placed third with a 78 (+7). Freshman Israel Smith (Houston, TX) was the third Mitchell finisher with a round of 88 (+17), while Liam Kane (Waterford, Conn.) and Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.) carded rounds of 92 (+21) and 102 (+31) respectively for the Mariners.
WIT took home the top team score at 316 (+32) while the Mariners were second with a 331 (+47). The Falcons were third at 340 (+56) and Lesley fourth with a team score of 353 (+69).
The Mariners will return to the links on Friday, October 4, when they square off against Dean College at Beaver River Golf Club in Richmond R.I.
