MITCHELL COLLEGE WOMEN’S TENNIS TEAM UPSETS POST UNIVERSITY
WATERBURY, CT September 11, 2008 - Mitchell College under the direction of first year coach Rick Carmona started the season against Division II Post University. Mitchell is a young team and with only three returning players and was not sure what to expect going into to today's match.
Mitchell's top three singles players, Jennifer Travella (Park Ridge, NJ), Amanda Resnick ( )and Ilana Papernik (New York, NY) dropped their singles matches. At #4 singles, freshman Lauren Rowley won, 6 - 0, 6-0 and then two sport athlete Miah Manning followed suite posting a 6-0, 6-0 win at number 5 singles. Anchoring the squad is freshman Rebecca Ciccarone who held on to win her match 6-2, 6-4.
With the match tied going into doubles. The first doubles team from Post took the first doubles match against Mitchell team of Travella/Resnick 8-0. The athletic second doubles team of Manning/Rowley evened the match by taking the match 8-4. All the pressure was on the number three doubles team of Papernik/Cicarrone who in a heated match upset the talent team from Post 8-6 to capture the match.
Mitchell is 1 -0 and is on the road this Saturday against conference rival Becker College. Post is 0-1.
