Flanagan Earns Third Straight NECC ROW Nod
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – For the third time in as many weeks,
Mitchell College freshman Mackenzie Flanagan was named New England
Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the sport of
women's tennis, as announced by the conference on Monday
afternoon.
Flanagan went undefeated in singles play last week in conference
matches against Bay Path, Lesley and Newbury. She started the week
by rallying back to defeat Bay Path's Lauren Hangasky by
final scores of 1-6, 6-0, 6-4. She then held off Lesley's
Courtney Mullen in a third-set tiebreaker to win 6-4, 3-6, 7-6
(7-3), and her final singles win came in straight sets against
Newbury's Jennifer Swafford by finals of 6-1, 6-0.
Flanagan also finished 2-1 at the top doubles spot for the week
along with partner Kelly Walsh. The Mitchell duo earned their first
win of the season in a tiebreaker against Lesley by a 9-8 (7-4)
final before winning 8-2 against Newbury.
Flanagan has posted four straight victories and sports an overall
singles record of 6-1 and 4-0 in conference action. In doubles play
she holds a record of 2-5 overall and 2-2 in NECC play.
Mitchell (0-7 overall, 0-4 NECC) will next play at Becker College
on Wednesday, September 29 at 3:30 p.m.
