Tennis' Schmidt Tabbed NECC Player of the Week
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College sophomore Jennifer Schmidt was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week for the sport of women's tennis, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.
Schmidt posted a combined 3-1 singles and doubles record last week and helped Mitchell to an undefeated week. She picked up two points for the Mariners in a 5-4 victory over Newbury College, winning in straight sets at No. 4 singles and by an 8-4 final at No. 2 doubles. Schmidt also earned a straight sets victory at No. 4 singles against Lesley University, a match the Mariners won by a 7-2 final.
The two wins helped put Mitchell (2-3 overall, 2-1 NECC) into a tie for second place in the NECC standings. Schmidt improved to 2-1 in league singles play and is 1-1 with playing partner Alexa Litwak.
Mitchell will next play at Becker College on Wednesday, September 26 at 3:30 p.m.
