Baseball Trio Earns NECC Honors
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Three members of the Mitchell College baseball team earned all-conference honors from the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday afternoon.
Senior Tommy Derosier was named to the NECC All-Conference First Team while freshman Nick Carlson earned a spot on the NECC All-Conference Second Team. Freshman Drew Doyle also garnered all-conference honorable mention status. All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches and selected by position.
Derosier got the nod as the top second baseman in the league after hitting .299 this season with a team-high 23 RBI and 13 runs scored in 27 games. He played in all 18 conference games and drove in 15 runs while scoring eight times. The selection marked the first time in his career that he earned all-conference recognition.
Carlson played in the first 14 conference games of the season before missing the final four contests due to injury. Still, he earned second team status at shortstop by virtue of his .345 batting average in NECC play. He also scored 12 runs and finished with four RBI while going 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts. For the entire season he ranked second on the team in hitting with a .359 average and 10 RBI.
Doyle, an outfielder, enjoyed a solid rookie campaign that saw him bat a team-leading .444 in conference action, good enough to rank third in the NECC in the category. He also ranked among the league leaders with two triples (T-5th), .556 slugging percentage (7th), 24 hits (T-9th), and .455 on-base percentage (13th). He finished with an overall batting average of .319 and 18 RBI in 27 total games.
Mitchell finished with a 10-18 overall record and tied for fourth in the NECC with a 9-9 mark.
