Miller Jr. Homers Twice in Baseball's Rout of Norwich
NORTHFIELD, VT – Kenneth Miller Jr. (New London, Conn.) belted a pair of home runs for the Mitchell College baseball team on Sunday afternoon, powering the Mariners past Norwich University, 9-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) showdown at Garrity Field.
The junior went 4-5, drove in seven, and scored a pair of runs, hitting a grand slam in the top of the fifth to break open what was a one-run game at the time. His second homer, a three run shot to right field, came two innings later and extended Mitchell's lead to 8-0. Junior Nicholas Bracale (East Haven, Conn.) and freshman Ryan Dennis (Enfield, Conn.) also drove in runs for the Mariners, as the ball club notched their eighth win in a row.
Sophomore Chase Donahue (Shirley, Mass.) picked up his first win of the spring after tossing seven innings of four-hit ball. Donahue scattered four hits and struck out five, while junior Jacob Quiles (Wallkill, N.Y.) closed things out with two one-hit innings out of the bullpen.
Geffen Franus had two of the five hits the Cadets managed against Mitchell pitching. Ryan Miller was the losing pitcher, surrendering five runs in five innings of work.
The Mariners (19-13, 10-1 GNAC) are off until they host Johnson & Wales University in a GNAC doubleheader between the top two teams in the conference on Friday, April 18. The Cadets (8-14, 3-6 GNAC) will look to snap their three game skid when they travel to play the University of Saint Joseph on Tuesday, April 15.
