Baseball Topples #20 CWRU on Day Two in South Carolina
LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Mitchell College baseball team racked up a season-high 18 runs on its second day at the 2026 Spartan Southern Classic, routing No. 20 Case Western Reserve University, 18–1, at Lexington County Stadium in non-conference action.
Mitchell struck first in the opening inning and gradually built its lead before erupting for eight runs in the fourth inning to take firm control of the game. The Mariners added five more runs in the sixth inning and two in the ninth to cap a dominant offensive showing.
The Mariners finished with 12 hits while drawing 12 walks and taking advantage of three Case Western Reserve errors.
Senior Johnny Brucato (Cheshire, Conn.) powered the Mitchell offense, going 2-for-5 with a double, triple, and five RBI. Freshman Angel Rodriguez Cruz (Cidra, D.R.) added two hits and four RBI, while senior Kenneth Miller Jr. (New London, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Senior Dom Yarson (Ewing, N.J.) also recorded two hits and drove in a run, and sophomore Ryan Dennis (Ellington, Conn.) reached base three times and scored three runs.
Mitchell's pitching staff combined to hold the nationally ranked Spartans to just five hits. Freshman Alex Ramos (Middletown, Conn.) started and worked 1.2 innings before senior Thai-ler Sestokas (Danbury, Conn.) earned the win in relief, tossing 5.1 strong innings while allowing just one unearned run and striking out four.
Case Western Reserve's lone run came in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Tyler Stillson.
The Mariners (3–3) will look to win their second game in a row on Thursday, March 12, when they face Marietta College at 1:30 p.m.
