Brucato Named GNAC Baseball Player of the Week
WINTHROP, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Johnny Brucato (Cheshire, Conn.) has been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for baseball, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The shortstop played a major role in Mitchell's offensive production during a six-game spring break stretch, batting .345 (10-for-29) with six runs scored, four doubles, two triples, and 15 RBI while posting a .387 on-base percentage and a .621 slugging percentage. He also totaled six extra-base hits and 18 total bases during the week.
His biggest performances came in two key road victories. In an 18–1 win over No. 20 Case Western Reserve, he went 2-for-5 with a double, a triple, and five RBI to help power Mitchell's explosive offensive output. He followed that with another standout effort in a 13–4 win over SUNY Cobleskill, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, two runs scored, and five RBI. Brucato also turned in a 3-for-5 performance with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI in Mitchell's 8–6 victory over Marietta, giving him three multi-hit games and four games with multiple RBI during the stretch.
Heading into the new week, Brucato is slashing .357/.413/.548 and ranks second in the conference with 17 RBI.
The Mariners (5-4, 0-0 GNAC) will return to action on Tuesday, March 17, with their home opener against Clark University at 3:00 p.m.
