Big Week Lands Brucato on D3baseball.com Team of the Week
NEW LONDON, Conn. – On the heels of being named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, Mitchell College senior Johnny Brucato (Cheshire, Conn.) has earned a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, as announced on Wednesday.
Each week during the season, the popular website recognizes the top performers from across the nation at each position, and Brucato was selected at shortstop. It marks the first time in his collegiate career that he has earned the distinction and the first time a Mitchell player has been featured on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week this season.
In helping lead Mitchell to a 4-2 record on its spring break trip, Brucato batted .345 (10-for-29) with six runs scored, four doubles, two triples, and 15 RBI while posting a .387 on-base percentage and a .621 slugging percentage. He also recorded six extra-base hits and 18 total bases during the week.
His biggest performances came in two key road victories. In an 18–1 win over then-No. 20 Case Western Reserve, he went 2-for-5 with a double, a triple, and five RBI, helping power Mitchell's explosive offensive output. He followed that with another standout performance in a 13–4 win over SUNY Cobleskill, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, two runs scored, and five RBI.
Brucato also turned in a 3-for-5 performance with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI in Mitchell's 8–6 victory over Marietta, giving him three multi-hit games and four games with multiple RBI during the week.
The Mariners (6-4, 0-0 GNAC) are scheduled to return to action at home on Thursday, March 19, when they host Nichols College in non-conference play at 3:00 p.m.
