Baseball Falls at No. 4 Salve Regina
NEWPORT, R.I. – The Mitchell College baseball team dropped an 8–1 decision to No. 4 Salve Regina University in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Reynolds Field.
Mitchell struck first in the third inning, as sophomore Ryan Dennis (Ellington, Conn.) came around to score and give the Mariners an early 1–0 lead.
Salve Regina responded in the bottom half of the inning, using an RBI double and a sacrifice fly to take a 2–1 advantage. The Seahawks broke the game open in the fifth, plating six runs, highlighted by a three-run home run from Shane Williams.
The Mariners were limited to five hits in the contest, with senior Kenneth Miller Jr. (New London, Conn.) leading the way with two. Junior Christopher Piscione (Cranston, R.I.) added an RBI double, while Dennis reached base four times, going 1-for-1 with three walks and two stolen bases.
On the mound, senior Dom Yarson (Ewing, N.J.) took the loss, allowing two runs over the first two innings.
Salve Regina finished with 11 hits, led by Jake Harring, who recorded three hits and an RBI.
Williams drove in a game-high three runs, while James Anastasopoulos added two RBI.
The Mariners (17-8, 10-2 GNAC) return to action on Saturday, April 11, with a conference matchup at Elms College.
