No. 1 Mitchell Hosts Opening Weekend of GNAC Baseball Tournament
NEW LONDON, Conn. – After earning the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Baseball Championship Tournament, the Mitchell College baseball team will host the opening weekend of pod play from Thursday, April 30 through Sunday, May 3.
As the top seed in the tournament field, the Mariners will welcome No. 4 Dean College, No. 5 Colby-Sawyer College, and No. 8 Elms College for a four-team, double-elimination pod, with all games played at Mitchell. The multi-day event will determine which team advances out of Pod A to the next stage of the GNAC Championship.
Tournament play begins Thursday, April 30, with first-round matchups hosted by the higher seeds. Mitchell will open postseason play against eighth-seeded Elms at 2:00 p.m., while Dean and Colby-Sawyer will square off at 3:00 p.m., in a game played at Dean College.
The Mariners will then host the remainder of pod play beginning Saturday, May 2, featuring three games that will shape the bracket heading into championship Sunday. The day opens with an elimination game at 8:30 a.m., followed by a winners' bracket contest at 12:00 p.m., and concludes with another elimination game at 3:00 p.m.
Pod A action will culminate on Sunday, May 3, with the pod final scheduled for 11:00 a.m. If necessary, a winner-take-all game will follow to determine the pod champion.
Mitchell will be looking to advance to the best-of-three GNAC Baseball Championship Series for the third consecutive year, having won the conference in 2024 before falling to former GNAC member Johnson & Wales University last spring in two games.
