McLean Medals at Mitchell Invitational II
GROTON, Conn. - Senior Shamus McLean (Groton, Conn.) earned medalist honors for the Mitchell College men's golf team, as the Mariners competed in the Mitchell Invitational II on Wednesday at Shennecossett Golf Course.
McLean tied for first overall, shooting a three-over-par round of 74, matching the score of Ruslan Makarenko of Mount Saint Mary College, who also carded a round of 74. Senior Jack Hayes (New Milford, Conn.) carded a nine-over-par round of 80, good for second place, while freshman Israel Smith (Houston, TX) fired a 90. Liam Kane (Waterford, Conn.) and Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.) rounded out the day for the Mariners with scores of 101 (+30) and 91 (+20) respectively.
The Knights took home the top team score, shooting a 313 (+29), while WCSU finished second with a 326 (+42), and Mitchell rounded out the pack with a 335 (+51).
The Mariners will return to the links on Wednesday, September 25, when they compete in the Brett Williamson Invitational at Tekoa Country Club.
