Softball Tripped Up by Bantams
HARTFORD, Conn. – The Mitchell College softball team traveled for a single non-conference game against intrastate foe Trinity College on Monday afternoon, falling by a final of 6-0 at the Trinity Softball Field.
After two scoreless innings, the Bantams opened the scoring in the bottom of the third as Taylor Mikolajczak laced an RBI triple to the right-centerfield gap, staking Trinity to a 1-0 lead. The home squad added to their advantage in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from Hannah Mullaney, followed by an RBI triple from Makenna True, making it a 3-0 game.
The Mariners threatened in the top of the fifth, loading the bases with two outs, but Trinity starter Zofia Sargent forced a pop out to end the frame. The Bantams tacked on another three runs in the sixth, while holding the Mariners to just two hits.
Senior Gemma Landry (Lewiston, ME) and sophomore Brooke Clancy (East Haven, Conn.) were responsible for the two Mitchell hits, while senior Emily Reynolds got the start, working four innings of three-run ball, before senior Katelynn Goodman (Virginia Beach, VA) took over, surrendering just one run over the final two innings.
Sargent picked up in the win in the circle, scattering just two hits and a walk, striking out three.
The Mariners (12-18-1) will wrap up their regular season with a pair of conference games on Sunday, April 27, at Dean College. The Bantams (9-19, 2-12 NESCAC) are back on the diamond on Saturday, April 26, at home against Wesleyan University.
