HENNIKER, N.H. – The Mitchell College softball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon after splitting a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at New England College, topping the Pilgrims 8–3 in the opener before falling 3–1 in game two.
The Mariners finish the season with an overall record of 16–21–1, including a 9–9 mark in GNAC play.
Game 1 – Mitchell 8, NEC 3
Mitchell struck first in the opening inning when senior Cassandra Roman (New London, Conn.) launched a solo home run to left field. New England College answered in the fourth, scoring twice to take a 2–1 lead.
The Mariners responded in the fifth with a four-run frame to regain control. Roman delivered a two-run double to spark the rally, and Mitchell capitalized on aggressive baserunning and situational hitting to take a 5–2 advantage.
After the Pilgrims trimmed the deficit to two in the sixth, Mitchell put the game away in the seventh. Senior Olivia DeCicco (Haverhill, Mass.) provided the big blow, blasting a three-run home run to center to extend the lead to 8–3.
