Cross Country Competes in Blazer Classic
CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams returned to action on Saturday, September 13, competing in the Blazer Classic hosted by Elms College at Chicopee Memorial State Park.
Senior Tim O'Hayre (Hull, Mass.) paced the Mariners in the 8K, placing 30th out of 48 runners with a time of 35:45. Junior Jonathan Hecker (Falls Church, Va.) wasn't far behind, crossing the line in 40:19. Freshman Jeremy Collins (Stonington, Conn.) and sophomore Preston Cheng (Staten Island, N.Y.) rounded out the Mitchell men with times of 48:55 and 52:28, respectively. As a team, Mitchell did not place.
Western New England University captured the men's team title, while Caleb Ruch of Lasell University was the top individual finisher with a time of 28:27.
In the women's 6K, the Mariners finished sixth out of six teams and were led by junior Madison Cole (Westbrook, Maine), who posted a time of 37:56. Senior Morgyn Perkins (Bristol, Conn.) followed at 38:51, while senior Charlotte Rawley (Bedford, N.Y.) recorded a 45:32. Senior Sarah Latch (Hampstead, N.Y.) crossed in 56:34, and freshman Cenieya Nieves (Bridgeport, Conn.) rounded out the lineup with a time of 1:00:34.
Lia Pouliot of Western New England claimed the women's individual title in 25:21.
The Mariners return to action on Saturday, September 20, at the Travis J. Fuller Invitational, hosted by Mass. Maritime.
