WINTHROP, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Jaylyn Clardy (Pensacola, Fla.) has been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for the sports of men's basketball, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Clardy continued his blistering start to the season, averaging 31 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, helping guide the Mariners to a 2-0 record on the week. The senior guard shot 60.5% from the floor, 50% from three-point range, and 72.7% from the free-throw line, while adding 1.5 steals and 1.5 assists per contest.
He began the week by registering his first double-double of the season, netting 32 points on 11-21 shooting, while adding 12 rebounds, two assists, and a steal in a win over Salve Regina University. He then notched his second straight game of scoring 30 or more, as he posted a stat line of 30 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and one assist, helping lead the Mitchell past Maine Maritime Academy and to the Jim Beaudry Classic championship, in the tournament hosted by the University of New England.
Clardy enters the new week averaging 29 points and 7.7 rebounds, while shooting 56.9% from the floor through the first three games of the season. The 29 points per game is tops in the GNAC, while he also ranks within the top-10 in the conference in rebounds per game and field goal percentage.
