Bulldogs Too Much for Men’s Basketball in GNAC Showdown
FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team fell to Dean College, 87-76, on Thursday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action inside Pieri Gymnasium. The game, which picked up midway through the second quarter, was the resumption of a game that had to be postponed back on February, 12.
With the loss, the Mariners fall to 6-7 in league standings, while the Bulldogs leap over Mitchell in the standings and improve to 7-6 in GNAC play.
Junior Walker Baillargeon (Norwich, Conn.) led all scorers with 30 points off the bench for Mitchell. Senior Wilton Causey (Worcester, Mass.) and freshman Tommy Daly (Wethersfield, Conn.) chipped in 12 points each in the loss. The Mariners struggled in the paint and were outrebounded, 51-33, while also shooting 40% from the floor, with the Bulldogs shooting at a 49.2% clip.
Dean's Ja'maine Davenport paced the Bulldogs with 29 points and eight rebounds. Frankie Idlett added 19 points and eight boards in the win, as Dean shot 90% (18-20) from the free throw line, as opposed to a 9-17 mark for Mitchell.
The Mariners (14-10, 6-7 GNAC) will look to end their regular season on a high note when they travel for a conference clash at Norwich University on Saturday, February 22, with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 pm. The Bulldogs (15-9, 7-6 GNAC) close out their regular season at Saint Joseph's College (ME) on Saturday, February 22.
