Men’s Basketball Falls to Dean
FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team came up short on the road Wednesday night, falling 85–72 to Dean College in a non-conference matchup at Pieri Gymnasium.
Junior Troy Butler (Manchester, Conn.) led the Mariners with 21 points, connecting on 6-of-11 from the field, 3-of-6 from three-point range, and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Abdul Mansaray (Jacksonville, Fla.) added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while senior Brandon Lee (Stockton, Calif.) finished with eight points and two assists.
Mitchell battled early, keeping the game close throughout the first half before Dean took a 42–35 lead into halftime. The Mariners continued to compete after the break but couldn't keep pace with the Bulldogs' efficient offense.
As a team, Mitchell shot 41.0% (25-for-61) from the field, 33.3% (6-for-18) from three-point range, and 64.0% (16-for-25) from the foul line.
Dean was led by Christian Yeates, who scored a game-high 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Naser Motley added 21 points and seven rebounds, while Randy Vasquez and Xavier Boyd each finished with 13 points. The Bulldogs shot 49.2% (32-for-65) from the floor, 66.7% (8-for-12) from three, and 56.5% (13-for-23) from the free-throw line.
Mitchell's bench contributed, with freshman Jaxyn Beaudet (Groton, Conn.) scoring six points and senior David Stallworth (Stockton, Calif.) adding five. The Mariners pulled down 13 offensive rebounds and totaled 37 boards overall.
The Mariners (0–2, 0–2 GNAC) will look to bounce back on Saturday, November 15, when they travel to take on Eastern Connecticut State University at 1:00 p.m.
