Warriors Outlast Men’s Basketball
WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team came out on the losing end of a 76-63 decision against intrastate foe Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play at Geissler Gymnasium.
Mitchell shot 45.5% from the field and kept things tight for most of the day, trailing just 37–31 at halftime and hanging within single digits well into the second half. Junior Troy Butler (Manchester, Conn.) led the Mariners with 15 points, while senior Brandon Lee (Stockton, Calif.) added 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Sophomore Abdul Mansaray (Jacksonville, Fla.) turned in another steady all-around performance with 11 points, 7 boards, and 3 assists, and senior David Stallworth (Stockton, Calif.) contributed 9 points on an efficient 3-for-6 shooting.
The difference came on the glass, where Eastern Connecticut grabbed 21 offensive rebounds and held a 49–26 rebounding advantage overall. The Warriors used those extra possessions to fuel a balanced scoring effort. Jalen Hamblin posted a game-high 20 points and 8 rebounds, Ray Carter knocked down four threes on his way to 18 points, and Drew Soltis controlled the interior with 8 points and 14 rebounds.
The Mariners (0–3, 0–0 GNAC) will look for their first win of the season when they visit Purchase College on Tuesday, November 18, with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
