Men’s Basketball Rallies Past Beavers in Cadet-Mariner Classic
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team used a dominant second-half surge to erase a halftime deficit and earn a 69–59 win over CCNY on Saturday afternoon in the final day of the Cadet-Mariner Classic, hosted by the Coast Guard Academy.
Trailing 36–30 at the break, the Mariners clamped down defensively and outscored the Beavers 39–23 in the final 20 minutes to secure their second victory of the season.
Mitchell featured balanced scoring throughout the lineup, with three players finishing in double figures. Senior Brandon Lee (Stockton, Calif.) led the way with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and three steals on 5-for-7 shooting. Sophomore guard Adrian Alicea (Miami, Fla.) added a collegiate career-high 15 points, while fellow sophomore Abdul Mansaray (Jacksonville, Fla.) stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks.
The Mariners dominated the glass, outrebounding the Beavers 55–39, and forced 21 turnovers to fuel their second-half surge.
CCNY was led by Michael Bowman, who scored 22 points, while David Leye added 12.
The Mariners (2–4, 0–0 GNAC) will host the University of Hartford in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 5 p.m. in their final game before the brief Thanksgiving break.
