Second-Half Surge Sends Emmanuel Past Men's Basketball
BOSTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team battled through a tightly contested first half that featured 10 lead changes and nine ties but ultimately fell to Emmanuel College, 98–80, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Friday afternoon at the Jean Yawkey Center.
Mitchell shot 54.5 percent from the field in the opening half and trailed by just one point, 44–43, at the break after neither team led by more than four points in the first 20 minutes. Emmanuel grabbed control early in the second half, building a multi-possession lead within the first four minutes and steadily extending the margin to double digits midway through the period. The Saints outscored the Mariners 54–37 in the second half to secure the win.
Sophomore Abdul Mansaray (Jacksonville, Fla.) and junior Troy Butler (Manchester, Conn.) led Mitchell with 20 points apiece, with Mansaray adding 13 rebounds for a double-double. Sophomore Collin Jefferson (Orlando, Fla.) contributed 14 points on four three-pointers, and senior Brandon Lee (Stockton, Calif.) added six points and nine rebounds.
The Mariners shot 47.0 percent from the field and held a 40–24 advantage in points in the paint.
Emmanuel was paced by Noah Beaudet's game-high 34 points, while Cameron Snowden and Mahari Guerrier each added 16 points as the Saints shot 52.9 percent from the floor.
The Mariners (7–16, 3–8 GNAC) will play their final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday, February 18, when they host crosstown rival Coast Guard Academy at 6:00 p.m.
