Women’s Lacrosse Drops Season Opener at JWU
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team dropped their season opening game by a final of 21-1 against Johnson & Wales University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Sophomore Chloe Jennings (New London, Conn.) was responsible for the lone Mitchell goal, potting the first goal of her collegiate career off an assist by senior Carly Potts (New London, Conn.) with 4:26 remaining in the fourth quarter. Jennings added a team-high four ground balls and four draw controls. Jennings and senior Kyrsten Lucas (Manchester, MD) each caused two turnovers in the loss.
The Wildcats opened strong, outscoring the Mariners 11-0 in the first quarter with Mila Kuilan and Madeleine Gould scoring three goals apiece. Four more goals in the second period put JWU ahead 15-0 at the half, and the Wildcats went on to outscore Mitchell 6-1 the rest of the way.
Kuilan finished with a game-high six goals, while Gould scored four times and dished out three assists.
Mitchell junior Arrianna Stark (Scotia-Glenville, N.Y.) logged all 60 minutes in goal and recorded five saves. Emma Glyman improved to 2-0 for the Wildcats without recording a save.
The Mariners (0-1, 0-1 GNAC) return to action when they host Colby-Sawyer College on Friday, March 7, in their home opener at 3:30 pm. The Wildcats (2-0, 1-0 GNAC) are set to host Simmons University in their next game on Saturday, March 8.
