Jennings Scores Five as Women’s Lacrosse Falls at Simmons
BRIGHTON, Mass. – A decisive second-quarter surge by Simmons University proved to be the difference as the Mitchell College women's lacrosse team fell, 22–7, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Monday evening at Daly Field.
Mitchell opened the game strong, jumping out to a 2–0 lead behind a pair of early goals from junior Chloe Jennings (New London, Conn.), and the Mariners were tied 3–3 late in the first quarter before Simmons closed the period with a goal to take the lead for good.
The Sharks seized control in the second quarter, outscoring Mitchell 7–1 to build an 11–4 advantage at halftime. Simmons continued to extend its lead in the third, netting six goals, though the Mariners answered with scores from Jennings and senior Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.).
Jennings led the Mariners with five goals on 10 shots, adding seven ground balls, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Cordero chipped in two goals along with six ground balls and two draw controls.
In goal, freshman Jay Minner (Milford, Conn.) and sophomore Ronnie Keays (Salem, N.H.) split time, combining for eight saves.
Simmons was paced by Leah Finn, who finished with seven goals, while Sophia Gill and Everett Garner added four goals apiece.
The Sharks held advantages in shots (45–14), ground balls (26–17), and draw controls (22–9), controlling possession throughout the contest.
The Mariners (0-13, 0-12 GNAC) will wrap up their season on Wednesday, April 22, with a home GNAC contest against Norwich University.
