Women’s Lacrosse Edged in Road Showdown at Elms
CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team dropped an 11–5 decision to Elms College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Tuesday evening at Leary Field.
Mitchell came out strong, battling to a 3–3 tie after the opening quarter behind a trio of goals from junior Chloe Jennings (New London, Conn.). Jennings continued her strong play in the second quarter, scoring again to give the Mariners a 4–3 advantage at halftime.
Elms responded in the third quarter, scoring four times to regain control and take a 7–5 lead into the final period. The Blazers added four more goals in the fourth to pull away and secure the conference victory.
Jennings led the Mariners with five goals on 11 shots, including eight on goal. Senior Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) added an assist while contributing four draw controls, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
In goal, senior Arrianna Stark (Schenectady, N.Y.) recorded seven saves while facing 18 shots on goal.
Elms was led by Jackie Cronin, who finished with a game-high seven goals, while Rachel Dort added three goals. Marisa LaRocque earned the win in net for the Blazers, making five saves.
Elms held advantages in shots (31–14) and ground balls (26–13), while Mitchell edged the Blazers in draw controls (10–8).
The Mariners (0–6, 0–6 GNAC) return home for their next game against Saint Joseph's College (ME) on Thursday, April 2, at 3:00 p.m.
