Women’s Lacrosse Dropped by Monks at Home
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team was defeated by Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 25–1, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Monks controlled the contest from the opening draw, scoring 10 goals in the first quarter and adding eight more in the second to take an 18–1 lead into halftime.
Mitchell broke through midway through the first quarter when senior Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal for the Mariners' lone tally of the game.
Cordero led Mitchell with one goal on four shots, including three on goal, while also contributing five draw controls and two ground balls. Sophomore Ronnie Keays (Salem, N.H.) added two shots on goal and a ground ball, while freshman Jay Minner (Milford, Conn.) chipped in defensively with two ground balls.
In goal, senior Arrianna Stark (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Minner split time, with each player turning away seven shots.
Saint Joseph's (Maine) was paced by Ella Highbarger, who finished with five goals and an assist, while Celia Melanson dished out six assists.
The Monks held advantages in shots (46–7), ground balls (25–10), and draw controls (19–7), controlling possession throughout the contest.
The Mariners (0–8, 0–7 GNAC) will next embark on a two-game road trip, beginning on Saturday, April 4, with a 2:00 p.m. conference game at Simmons University.
