Women's Lacrosse Can't Slow USJ
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team was defeated by the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), 25–1, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Saint Joseph seized control early, scoring eight times in the opening quarter to build an 8–1 lead. Junior Chloe Jennings (New London, Conn.) accounted for Mitchell's lone goal of the contest, converting on a free-position opportunity late in the first quarter.
The Blue Jays continued to add to their advantage in the second quarter, scoring nine goals to take a 17–1 lead into halftime.
USJ maintained control in the second half, outscoring the Mariners 8–0 over the final two quarters to secure the conference victory.
Jennings led Mitchell with one goal on eight shots, including four on goal, while also adding six draw controls. Senior Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) contributed four shots and four draw controls, and sophomore Ronnie Keays (Salem, N.H.) added two ground balls.
In goal, senior Arrianna Stark (Schenectady, N.Y.) made six saves in the first half, while sophomore Jay Minner (Milford, Conn.) saw action in the second half.
Saint Joseph was paced by Kailey Krusewski, who finished with a game-high seven goals, while Alana Picard and Anna LeGault each added five goals.
The Blue Jays held advantages in shots (39–15), ground balls (15–7), and draw controls (15–12), controlling possession throughout the contest.
The Mariners (0-10, 0-9 GNAC) will return to action on Saturday, April 11, when they host New England College for Senior Day at 12:00 p.m.
