Lasers Take Down Women’s Lacrosse
NEWTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team fell to Lasell University, 19–3, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Tuesday evening at Grellier Field.
Lasell seized control early, scoring 10 goals in the opening quarter to build a commanding lead. The Lasers added three more in the second to take a 13–1 advantage into halftime, with junior Chloe Jennings (New London, Conn.) netting Mitchell's lone goal of the half on a man-up opportunity.
Mitchell found some offensive rhythm in the third quarter, as senior Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) scored off an assist from Jennings before Jennings added her second goal of the game to cut the deficit to 14–3.
Lasell closed out the contest with five goals in the fourth quarter to secure the conference victory.
Jennings led the Mariners with two goals and an assist while tallying 14 shots, including 11 on goal, and adding six draw controls. Cordero chipped in a goal, two draw controls, and two ground balls.
In goal, freshman Jay Minner (Milford, Conn.) and senior Arrianna Stark (Schenectady, N.Y.) split time, combining for five saves.
Lasell was paced by Ruby Cahill, who finished with three goals and five assists, while Emily Watson added two goals and six assists.
Lasell held advantages in shots (31–18), ground balls (16–5), and draw controls (14–9), controlling possession throughout the contest.
The Mariners (0–11, 0–10 GNAC) return to action at Colby-Sawyer College in a GNAC tilt scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
