Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Vermont State Lyndon at Home
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team picked up its fifth win of the season on Wednesday evening, sweeping Vermont State University–Lyndon 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-7) at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
The Mariners hit a collective .276 and controlled all facets of the match, tallying 27 service aces.
Sophomore Genna Hyde (Cypress, Texas) paced the offense with eight kills on .333 hitting, along with six service aces and six digs, finishing with a team-high 14 points. Freshman Cimber Jenkins (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.) added a strong all-around effort with seven kills and eight assists, while senior Ali Ortiz (Groton, Conn.) contributed four kills and five aces. Sophomore Molly Wordell (East Haddam, Conn.) was efficient at the net, hitting .556 with six kills.
Mitchell also got a boost from behind the service line as freshman Kamila Ortiz-Plata (Groton, Conn.) and seniors Jenna Blankenship (Virden, Ill.) and Julia Lent (Miller Place, N.Y.) each delivered three or more aces. Blankenship dished out seven assists to direct the attack.
Vermont State Lyndon (0-5) was led by Kiara Mack, who finished with three kills on .500 hitting, while Sydney Clunis and Riley McNamara each tallied two service aces.
The Mariners (5-1, 1-0 GNAC) return to action on Saturday, September 13, when they host Regis College and Simmons University, with matches scheduled for 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
