Women’s Volleyball Bested in Road Match
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team came up short in non-conference action on Thursday evening, dropping a 3-0 decision at Rhode Island College at The Murray Center. Set scores were 25-17, 25-20, and 25-13 in favor of the Anchorwomen.
Sophomore Genna Hyde (Cypress, Texas) paced the Mariners with a team-high 11 kills, hitting .269 across three sets while adding five digs. Freshman Cimber Jenkins (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.) also turned in a strong effort with eight kills and a .350 hitting percentage, while chipping in three service aces and six digs.
Sophomore Molly Wordell (East Haddam, Conn.) contributed seven kills and a pair of blocks, while senior setter Jenna Blankenship (Virden, Ill.) dished out 10 assists and added seven digs. Senior Julia Lent (Miller Place, N.Y.) led the defensive effort with 12 digs from the back row.
As a team, Mitchell posted 28 kills on a .152 hitting percentage and registered four service aces. Rhode Island College countered with 37 kills and 13 aces while hitting .273 for the match.
The Mariners (5-4 overall, 1-2 GNAC) will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play this weekend when they travel to face Rivier University on Saturday, September 20.
