Women's Volleyball Falls to Lasell in GNAC Matchup
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Lasell University on Saturday morning in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
Set scores were 25-10, 25-20, and 25-22 in favor of the Lasers, who improved to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in GNAC play.
After a slow start in the opening set, the Mariners battled back with stronger efforts in sets two and three. Mitchell improved its hitting percentage each set, finishing with a team-high .217 hitting percentage in the third set.
Sophomore Genna Hyde (Cypress, TX) led the Mitchell offense with 10 kills, adding five digs and one block assist. Freshman Cimber Jenkins (New Symrna Beach, Fla.) added six kills while hitting .286, and sophomore Molly Wordell (East Haddam, Conn.) contributed four kills. Senior setter Jenna Blankenship (Virden, IL) chipped in with one service ace and four digs.
Defensively, senior libero Julia Lent (Miller Place, N.Y.) anchored the back row with 11 digs, and Chloe Maguire recorded a pair of digs and one kill. Mitchell totaled 28 digs and two team blocks in the match.
Lasell hit .304 as a team, totaling 35 kills and 15 service aces in the win. Estella Feenstra led the Lasers with eight kills, while Trinity Silva chipped in seven kills and three aces, hitting a perfect 1.000 in two sets played.
The Mariners (6-6, 1-4 GNAC) return to the hardwood on Wednesday, October 1, with a non-conference tilt against Lesley University at 7:00 p.m.
