Men’s Basketball Edged at Regis, 75–67
WESTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team fell by a final score of 75–67 in a road contest against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Regis College on Wednesday night at Higgins Court.
Junior guard Troy Butler (Manchester, Conn.) poured in a game-high 18 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc while adding four steals. Sophomore Lukas Sward (Bristol, Conn.) chipped in 12 points off the bench, and fellow sophomore Abdul Mansaray (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished with eight points, nine rebounds, and three assists.
Mitchell and Regis traded baskets early in a tightly contested opening half, with the score tied 10–10 at the 15:15 mark following a three-pointer by Butler. The Mariners briefly grabbed momentum behind a fast-break dunk by Zaveyn Tate at the 8:25 mark, but Regis answered with a 12–5 run to regain control and carried a 37–32 edge into the intermission.
The Pride maintained the momentum after halftime, opening the second half on a 7–0 run before the Mariners responded with five straight points to close the gap. Regis held a near double-digit advantage for much of the opening 10 minutes of the second half and remained in front the rest of the way, fending off multiple Mitchell rallies.
The Mariners pulled within three points on several occasions down the stretch, including following a Butler free throw with 5:11 remaining, but the Pride responded each time to secure their second GNAC victory of the season.
For Regis, Jamir Harvey and Aamyr Sullivan scored 18 points apiece, while Tyrone Chinn added 13 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
The Mariners (6–12, 2–4 GNAC) return to action on Saturday, January 31, with a GNAC road game at Colby-Sawyer College scheduled to tip off at 3:00 p.m.
