Wiley Receives NEWBA All-Region Honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) announced its all-region teams and major award winners for the 2021-22 season on Monday, and Mitchell College senior forward Amina Wiley was among those recognized.
Wiley was one of 20 players who received all-region honors, landing on the third team as the only representative of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC). All awards were determined by a vote of the region's head coaches.
Wiley is the first Mitchell player to earn NEWBA all-region honors, adding to an already impressive list of accomplishments. She was recently named NECC Player of the Year and earned all-conference first team status for the third time in her career. She was also tabbed MVP of the 2022 NECC Championship after leading the Mariners to their first-ever title.
Wiley led the NECC in scoring (19.5), rebounding (10.4) and field goal percentage (.561) in her final season with the Mariners. Her 13 double-doubles also led the league, and she ranked fourth among all active Division III players with 48 for her career. She was a six-time NECC Player of the Week selection during a regular season that saw her eclipse the 1,000-point barrier, as well as become the school's all-time leading rebounder.
Mitchell finished the season with an overall record of 12-14. The Mariners also made their NCAA Championship debut, falling to top-ranked Christopher Newport University in the opening round of the tournament.
