NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team battled but ultimately fell to Dean College, 97–69, on Tuesday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
Mitchell stayed within striking distance early, trailing just 25–16 after the first quarter, and later showed resilience with a strong third quarter in which the Mariners outscored Dean 21–16. Despite the push, Dean maintained control throughout, extending its lead to 47–27 at halftime and pulling away with a 34-point fourth quarter.
Sophomore Jade Hypolite (Houston, Texas) led the Mariners with 22 points, while fellow sophomore Jordyn Streitmatter (Brewster, Mass.) added 16 points and six assists. Senior Jamya Beddoe (New London, Conn.) chipped in 12 points and five rebounds, and senior Nanda Sanchez (Houston, Texas) contributed six points and five boards off the bench.
Dean was paced by Abigail Lacy's 28 points and Jordan Ellis' 18-point, 14-rebound double-double, as the Bulldogs shot 47.5 percent from the field and knocked down 13 three-pointers.
The Mariners (2–15, 0–8 GNAC) will continue conference play when they host Norwich University on Saturday, February 7, at 1:00 p.m.
