Rivier Pulls Away from Men’s Lacrosse in GNAC Clash
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team dropped a 28–1 decision to Rivier University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Monday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Rivier controlled the contest from the opening whistle, scoring 11 goals in the first quarter and building a 16–1 lead by halftime.
The Mariners broke through in the second quarter when sophomore Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal for Mitchell's lone tally of the game.
Mahoney led Mitchell with one goal on four shots, including three on goal, while adding a team-high five ground balls.
Freshman Evan Waite (Suffield, Conn.) contributed two shots on goal, and senior Cameron Haefs (Chicago, Ill.) made 19 saves in net while facing 47 shots on goal.
Rivier continued to add on in the second half, outscoring Mitchell 12–0 over the final two quarters.
Colin Foley and Mason Schultz each led the Raiders with four goals, while Aiden Conley also netted four. James DelPrete added three goals and two assists, and Cooper Goodman contributed two goals and two assists.
In goal, Jake Lydon earned the win for Rivier, making one save over 20:36 of action. Lucas Fitts and Will Corton combined for three saves in relief.
Rivier held advantages in shots (72–8), ground balls (59–14), and faceoffs (28–4), controlling possession throughout the contest.
The Mariners (0–6, 0–6 GNAC) will return to action on Wednesday, April 1, at Regis College in a conference matchup scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
