Men’s Lacrosse Bested by Albertus Magnus
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team dropped a 16–4 decision to Albertus Magnus College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Albertus Magnus seized control early, scoring five times in the opening quarter to build a 5–1 lead. Sophomore Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.) accounted for Mitchell's first goal with an unassisted tally midway through the period.
The Falcons added three more goals in the second quarter to extend the advantage to 8–2 at halftime, maintaining control of possession throughout the opening half.
Albertus Magnus continued to pull away in the third, scoring four times, while junior Gregory Powell (Middletown, Conn.) netted an unassisted goal for the Mariners to make it 12–3 heading into the final quarter.
Mahoney added his third goal of the game early in the fourth, but the Falcons closed the contest with four additional scores to secure the conference victory.
Mahoney led Mitchell with three goals on 16 shots, including 11 on goal. Powell added a goal, while junior Cameron Haefs (Chicago, Ill.) made 25 saves in net while facing 41 shots on goal.
Albertus Magnus was paced by Marcus Burrows, who finished with seven goals and an assist, while Sean Keenan added four goals and two assists.
The Falcons held advantages in shots (70–24), ground balls (57–22), and faceoffs (16–7), controlling the pace of play throughout the contest.
The Mariners (0-8, 0-7 GNAC) return to action on Saturday, April 11, when they host New England College at 3:00 p.m.
