Men’s Lacrosse Falls to New England College at Home
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team dropped an 18–2 decision to New England College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
New England College controlled the game from the outset, building a 10–0 lead by halftime behind a balanced offensive attack and strong faceoff play.
The Pilgrims extended their advantage in the third quarter, though Mitchell broke through with a pair of goals from sophomore Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.). Mahoney converted a man-up opportunity midway through the period and added a second unassisted tally in the closing seconds of the quarter.
Mahoney led the Mariners with two goals on 11 shots, including eight on goal. Junior Cameron Haefs (Chicago, Ill.) made 19 saves while facing 37 shots on goal, anchoring the defensive effort.
New England College was paced by Owen Taylor, who finished with six goals and three assists, while Nick McCarthy added five goals and Brody McGonigle chipped in four assists.
The Pilgrims held decisive advantages in shots (58–16), ground balls (54–12), and faceoffs (23–0), controlling possession throughout the contest.
The Mariners (0-9, 0-8 GNAC) return to action on Wednesday, April 15, with a conference clash at University of Saint Joseph.
