Men’s Lacrosse Falls at Colby-Sawyer
NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team dropped a 15–6 decision to Colby-Sawyer College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
Mitchell showed early fight, trading goals with the Chargers through much of the opening quarter. Goals by freshman Killian Stvartak (Glen Burnie, Md.) and sophomore Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.) helped the Mariners keep pace, as the contest was tied 2–2 midway through the first before Colby-Sawyer closed the period on a 2–0 run to take a 4–2 lead.
The Chargers pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Mitchell 6–3 to build a 10–5 advantage at halftime. Stvartak netted his second goal of the game during the stretch, while freshman Graham Brown (Southlake, Texas) added a tally and Mahoney converted on a man-up opportunity.
Colby-Sawyer continued to control play in the second half, limiting Mitchell to a single goal in the fourth quarter while adding five more goals to seal the 15–6 final.
Mahoney led the Mariners with three goals, while Stvartak added two and Brown chipped in one. Freshman Evan Waite (Suffield, Conn.) recorded an assist, and junior Cameron Haefs (Chicago, Ill.) made 17 saves in goal.
Colby-Sawyer was paced by Brycen Burnham with five goals, while Evan Thomas and James Masterson each added four.
The Mariners (0-12, 0-11 GNAC) wrap up conference play on Tuesday, April 21, when they host Dean College at 3:00 p.m.
