BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Flavio Alvarado (New London, Conn.) fired home a game tying goal in the 84th minute of action, as the Mitchell College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw in their season opening non-conference match against Fisher College on Saturday afternoon at Harry Della Russo Stadium.
Both squads were held scoreless during the first half and well into the second period, before Leonardo Di Biase put Fisher ahead in the 75th minute by sinking a cross off an assist by Kenji Vivas. With their backs against the rope and time running out the Mariners delivered, as Alvarado ripped home the first Mitchell goal of the year in the final minutes, ending the action with a 1-1 tie.
Senior Dylan Kinsella (Waterbury, Conn.) got the start in goal and produced a clean sheet across the first half of action. Sophomore Jesse Jenkins (Windsor, Conn.) surrendered one goal during the second half and turned away eight shots.
The Mariners (0-0-1, 0-0 GNAC) will return to New London for their home opener against crosstown rival Coast Guard on Thursday, September 5th, at 4:00 pm.
