NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team returned to Alumni Field on Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 7-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest to the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.).
The Blue Jays jumped out to an early advantage and never looked back, scoring three times in the opening 14 minutes. The Mariners worked to settle in after the quick start, but Saint Joseph continued to apply pressure throughout the match.
Mitchell generated 11 total shots—including four on target—with opportunities coming from freshman Jo'metrius Davis (Columbus, Ga.), sophomores Gabe Ansani (Trumbull, Conn.) and Jose Pacheco (New London, Conn.), and senior Stephen Contreras (Trumbull, Conn.), each of whom tested the Blue Jay goalkeepers. Junior Chris Costa (Bayport, N.Y.) also recorded two attempts to help pace the Mitchell attack.
In goal, freshman Dylan Johns (New Britain, Conn.) went the distance for the Mariners, facing 27 shots and making eight saves under heavy pressure.
Saint Joseph's scoring was highlighted by a pair of goals from Emmanuel Ofori, while six different Blue Jays contributed points on the afternoon.
The Mariners (1-6-1, 0-1-1 GNAC) return to action on Saturday, September 27, when they host Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in a GNAC matchup at Alumni Field.
