NASHUA, N.H. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup against Rivier University at Joanne Merrill Field.
Mitchell held firm early, but a first-half penalty kick converted by Alejandro Quezada in the 22nd minute gave Rivier the initial edge. The Raiders added four goals after halftime, including a pair from David Pereira, who finished second on the team in total shots. The hosts outshot Mitchell 30-4 and held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
For the Mariners, freshman Jo'Metrius Davis (Columbus, Ga.) and sophomore Sebastian Duffy (San Diego, Calif.) each registered a shot on goal, but Mitchell struggled to generate consistent offensive pressure against a disciplined Rivier defense.
Junior goalkeeper Jesse Jenkins (Windsor, Conn.) logged all 90 minutes in net and turned away seven shots against 12 attempts on target. Rivier's Logan Clough recorded a pair of saves in the shutout victory.
The Mariners (1-11-1, 0-6-1 GNAC) return to action on Wednesday, October 15, when they travel to Regis College for another GNAC matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
