NEW LONDON, Conn. – Sophomore Sean Khan (Wethersfield, Conn.) scored twice on Tuesday afternoon to lead the Mitchell College men's soccer team to its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory of the season—a 3-1 win over Lasell University at Alumni Field.
Khan opened the scoring early and netted the game-winner in the 44th minute, both unassisted. Fellow sophomore Jose Pacheco (New London, Conn.) added an insurance goal in the 59th minute, also unassisted.
Mitchell totaled 20 shots (9 on goal), with Khan, Pacheco, and freshman Jo'metrius Davis (Columbus, Ga.) combining for five shots on frame. In goal, junior Jesse Jenkins (Windsor, Conn.) recorded 10 saves to earn his first win of the season.
Lasell outshot Mitchell 26–20 and held a 7–2 edge in corner kicks, but couldn't capitalize. Daniel Faynstein and Owen O'Brien each had multiple shots on goal, and the Lasers' lone score came in the 33rd minute. Goalkeeper Avry Dorocha made 6 saves on 9 shots faced in the loss.
The Mariners (2-13-1, 1-8-1 GNAC) return to action on Saturday, October 25, when they host Emmanuel College on Senior Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
