WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team fell 68–43 to Utica University on Saturday afternoon at the Westfield Gas and Electric Tip-Off Tournament, hosted by Westfield State University.
Mitchell struggled to find consistent offense early, shooting 25.4 percent from the field and 14.3 percent from three. A decisive 25–8 second quarter gave the Pioneers control, and although Mitchell responded with a stronger third period, the early deficit was too much to overcome.
Senior Jamya Beddoe (New London, Conn.) led the Mariners with 10 points, while sophomore Jade Hypolite (Houston, Texas) added eight points and seven rebounds. Freshman Ariahna Headen (Rogers, Conn.) posted six points, six boards, and a block, and fellow freshman Delaney Fifield (Whately, Mass.) chipped in four points and five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Mitchell battled on the glass, finishing with 40 rebounds, including 11 offensive. Utica was led by Vanessa Hall, who scored a game-high 21 points.
The Mariners (1-5, 0-0 GNAC) return to action on their home court on Friday, February 5, against Fisher College, with tip-off scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
