Women’s Basketball Comes Up Short at Rivier
NASHUA, N.H. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team dropped an 80–74 decision at Rivier University on Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Muldoon Center.
Mitchell trailed 42–35 at halftime after Rivier held a narrow edge through the first two quarters. The Mariners stayed within striking distance early, but Rivier used points in the paint and second-chance opportunities to take a seven-point lead into the break.
Mitchell responded with a strong third quarter, outscoring Rivier 22–19 to cut the deficit to four heading into the final period. The Mariners briefly pulled within one late in the third quarter, but Rivier answered each push with timely baskets.
Sophomore Jordyn Streitmatter (Brewster, Mass.) led Mitchell with 20 points, adding three rebounds and two assists. Junior Inonda Peterson (Houston, TX) posted her second consecutive double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, along with two steals. Sophomore Jade Hypolite (Houston, Texas) chipped in 15 points, three assists, and three steals, while senior Jamya Beddoe (New London, Conn.) added 14 points and four assists.
Rivier was led by Sydney Perry, who finished with a game-high 25 points and nine rebounds. Juju Nealy recorded 18 points and six assists, while Gianna Donato added 17 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Mitchell shot 43.9 percent from the field and suffered a 36–45 rebounding deficit, while Rivier capitalized at the free throw line, converting 19-of-24 attempts.
The Mariners (2–9, 0–2 GNAC) return to action on Saturday, January 17, with their first home game of the new year against Elms College at 3:00 p.m.
