WOMENS SOCCER OPENS SEASON WITH A 3-0 WIN OVER PINE MANOR
NEW LONDON, CONN.-Second year head coach Damian Houlden and his women's soccer team opened up their 2007 campaign with a 3-0 win over Pine Manor College on Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.
The first game of the season for the two young teams produced only four shots in the first 40 minutes. At 39:07, junior midfielder Alex Chatilovicz (Stevenson, Md.) floated a corner kick through traffic for Mitchell's first goal of the game. About a minute later Chatilovicz spread the wealth with an assist to first year forward Paige Enhot (Cambridge, Md.) for her first collegiate goal. Enhot was not finished, she netted her second goal at the 70 minute mark off a pass from fellow first-year Megan Rowley (Buzzard Bay, Mass.)
In the net for Mitchell were new faces to the soccer pitch, but not to the college. Junior Colleen Seymour (Old Saybrook, Conn.) earned her first shutout victory as goalie with her two saves in the first half. Seymour is also a women's basketball player. Three-sport sophomore standout Sara Krolikowski (Bristol, Conn.) traded in her knee pads for goalie gloves as well this season am turned in a key save in the second half. Krolikowski is also a women's basketball player and a starter on the softball team.
Mitchell will spend Labor Day working towards their second victory against Wheelock College at 3:00 PM in Chestnut Hill, Mass. (on Pine Manor's campus). Pine Manor will re-group on Wednesday (9/5) for their home opener at 4:00 PM with Lesley University. Both Wheelock and Lesley University will join Mitchell as members of the NCAA Division III New England Collegiate Conference which begins play for the 2008-2009 season.
